You are invited to participate in the SWE2012 Workshop as part of the 20th International Conference on Advances in Geographic Inoformation Systems (ACM SIGSPATIAL GIS 2012) in Redondo Beach, CA, USA. The SWE2012 workshop aims to bring together sensor web experts to present and discuss the latest ideas about the broadly defined Sensor Web, its infrastructure, relevant algorithms and new innovative applications.



CALL FOR PAPERS

The workshop will include fully refereed paper presentations, short paper presentations and demos.

OBJECTIVE AND SCOPE

The Sensor Web envisions sensing resources (including both observations made by sensors and sensors’ remote control capabilities) discoverable, accessible, and controllable (when applicable) via the Web. Similar to the W3C Web standards enabling the WWW, the Open Geospatial Consortium’s (OGC) Sensor Web Enablement (SWE) standards enable researchers and developers to build standards-compliant sensor web systems and services. The first version of the SWE standards was made available by OGC in 2005, and the second version was released in 2011. While the standards continue to evolve, it is evident that governmental agencies, industry and academia are realizing the Sensor Web vision by adopting and extending the SWE standards and other emerging technologies such as semantics, Linked Data and cloud computing etc.

Building on the success of previous SWE workshops, the SWE2012 workshop aims to bring together sensor web experts to present and discuss the latest ideas about the broadly defined Sensor Web, its infrastructure, relevant algorithms and new innovative applications. The SWE workshop also aims to serve as a forum for Sensor Web users, developers and researchers to debate and discuss the current state-of-the-art and to shape the future of the Sensor Web. Real-world results and deployments of the sensor web system are also welcomed and encouraged. The outcome of the workshop will result in sharing best practices of building an interoperable sensor web for research, education, and operational usage.
